Hydrant Testing graphic

The Elon Fire Department will be testing the fire hydrants throughout the Town of Elon beginning the week of April 5th.  Why do they do this? The hydrants are tested to to ensure they are operable and able to produce the required water pressure when needed to fight a fire. During testing, pressure readings are taken to determine the amount of water available from the hydrant. As you may have experienced in the past, testing can sometimes cause a temporary discoloration of water in nearby homes. The discoloration is not harmful in any way and can be cleared up by running the water for a few minutes. If you have questions about fire hydrant testing, please contact the Elon Fire Department at 336.584.9190.
