Chief Kelly Blackwelder, Sgt. Ditra Graves, and Sgt. Demario Chavis

On Monday, December 7, 2020, Chief Kelly Blackwelder recognized the significant achievements of Sgt. Demario Chavis and Sgt. Ditra Graves.

Sgt. Chavis was promoted on October 19, 2020 after an intense assessment in competition with three other officers. Sgt. Chavis began his career in law enforcement with the Henderson Police Department in 2004 and will celebrate five years with the Elon Police Department on December 14th. He has served in a variety of functions including patrol, community policing, SRT (SWAT) operator, and most recently as a narcotics investigator on the Alamance Narcotics Enforcement Team. The Elon Police Department and Town of Elon are proud of Sgt. Chavis and have high expectations for his continued success.

Sgt. Ditra Graves participated in the Law Enforcement Officer’s Professional Certificate program offered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Under this program, dedicated officers may receive statewide and nationwide recognition for education, professional training, and on the job experience. The Advance Certificate is the highest and most coveted achievement. Sgt. Graves accomplished this achievement through her dedication to her profession. She has over 8 years of experience in law enforcement, 1,240 hours of law enforcement training over and above the mandated annual training and weekly K9 training hours, and holds two Bachelors degrees in Liberal Arts from NC A&T and Criminal Justice from Guilford College. The Elon Police Department and Town of Elon are proud of her achievement and the dedication she has to her profession.

Congratulations to Sgt. Chavis and Sgt. Graves!
