Junior Firefighters

The Elon Fire Department Junior Firefighter Program is a youth development program for young men and women who are 14 to 18 years of age. Our program is designed to give youths an “inside” look into the demanding, fast-paced world of the fire service. Here they learn teamwork, responsibility, and motivation, all of which help prepare them for future challenges no matter what career path they choose. Our Junior Firefighters are encouraged to make education a priority by requiring them to maintain at least a “C” average and to also stay enrolled in school. The importance of teamwork is stressed during their required 48 hours of training each year.

After the required 60-day probationary period, during which the Junior Firefighter is familiarized with gear and equipment, Junior Firefighters get to live the life of a firefighter. From riding on the apparatus to sleeping over at night at the station, they’ll experience firsthand the duties and responsibilities of a firefighter. Some of our Junior Firefighters have even gone on to become career firefighters.

If you or someone you know would like more information about our Junior Firefighter Program, please come by or call one of our stations at either 336.584.9190 or 336.586.1002.
