In a press release dated today, July 2, 2020, the N.C. Main Street Center & Rural Planning Center at the N.C. Department of Commerce announced that 48 North Carolina Communities have been designated as a 2020 Accredited Main Street America program. Accredited status is Main Street America’s highest tier of recognition, signifying a demonstrated commitment to comprehensive commercial district revitalization and showcasing a proven track record of successfully applying the Main Street approach. The Town of Elon rose from affiliated status that was achieved in 2018 to fully accredited in 2020. Elon joins 47 other North Carolina communities and 1,600 communities across the United States with this accreditation.
