The Town of Elon completed its competitive search process to identify the next Elon Police Chief.  Town Manager Richard White is pleased to announce that Interim Assistant Police Chief Kelly Blackwelder has been promoted to serve as the Elon Police Chief. Chief Blackwelder began her law enforcement career with the Salisbury Police Department in December 1999.  She was the only cadet to graduate with a job and in uniform.

Chief Blackwelder’s familiarity with the department, problem-solving skills, and ability to continue building community partnerships, will be assets to the Town and community as she effectively leads the police department. Since starting with the Town of Elon Police Department in October 2005, she has provided invaluable service to the Town as a patrol officer (Police Officer II); Criminal Investigations Detective; Master Police Officer; Patrol Lieutenant; Criminal Investigations Lieutenant; Operations Lieutenant; and most recently as the Interim Assistant Police Chief.

In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, Chief Blackwelder holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certification from the N.C. Training and Standards Commission; serves on the N.C. Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Revision Committee; and is an Explosives and Hazardous Material Specialized Instructor.

Chief Blackwelder will be sworn in today, January 16, 2019 at 4pm at the Municipal Building located at 104 S Williamson Ave, Elon, NC 27244.
